For five years, CERFO has been supporting and helping rural community women to realize their potential. We believe that investing in women fundamentally strengthens families and societies. Our Women Empowerment Program develops women's leadership, strengthens women's organizations, increases women's rights and ensures their security, and creates new political and economic opportunities for women across the district of Meru and Arusha in general. Our operating premise is that improving social, economic, and political opportunities for women improves societies as a whole.
CERFO seeks to identify change agents, build constituencies for reform around critical issues affecting women's status, and promote internal efforts to identify and solve problems.
CERFO has good experience designing and implementing innovative programs to improve women's social, economic, and political opportunities and enhance women's legal and human rights. Extensive in-country and regional networks, long-term relationships, and more than a decade of experience give the Foundation credibility, access, sources of innovation, and the necessary tools to complete pilot projects and larger-scale interventions that can influence systems. A good number of women in the three wards(Akheri, Nkoarisambu, and Nkoanrua) have managed to start their projects such as vegetable gardens, poultry projects, and raising cows for milk. In return, they get money to support their families, including sending their children to schools and colleges.
CERFO supports these women by instilling entrepreneurship education and funding their projects through assistance from donors and other well-wishers.
All volunteers have the opportunity to join these women in their homes and support their projects in any way - including human power, such as developing new vegetable gardens or other microfinance activities that can help create a better society with independent women.
